Denim Tears & Dr. Martens Unveil Collaborative Footwear Collection

Dropping Next Week.

Tremaine Emory’s Denim Tears and classic British footwear outfit Dr. Martens have joined forces for their first collection, putting forward four iterations of the latter’s iconic classic 8-eye 1460 boot and Penton loafer.

After having departed streetwear giants Supreme recently in rather unceremonious circumstances, it looks as though Denim Tears founder Tremaine Emory is getting back to business with the thought-provoking outfit as they link up with Dr. Martens for a narrative-driven capsule collection. Further reclaiming the African Diaspora through his work, Emory’s latest creative venture is dedicated to the HMT Windrush, which was a passenger liner with over 1000 passengers onboard – mainly from the Caribbean – that docked in London in 1948. Furthermore, the post-war British government gave members of the colonies the right to live and work in the United Kingdom, being met with racial and nationalist hostility and yet despite this, these communities remained and left an eternal mark on art, music, fashion and culture across the country. Reminding us of the seemingly ever-lasting struggles faced by all migrants who simply look to belong, this collaborative project celebrates diversity and underlines the integral role that individual societies must play in creating an environment which promotes empathy and understands and accepts the fluid nature of national identity.

The collection itself inserts a heavy dose of Caribbean culture into the classic Dr. Martens silhouettes with a Union Jack being subverted with the colours of the Jamaican flag, inspired by Chris Ofili’s 2003 ‘Union Black’ flag. The green and yellow design is placed across the frontal area of the classic 8-eye 1460 boot and Penton loafer shoe, arriving in two ‘Pure Black’ and ‘Bold Red’ colourways, with each pair being handcrafted at the original Dr. Martens factory in England.

Denim Tears x Dr. Martens’ footwear capsule will be available to shop on October 17th.
