The BET Awards returned last night for another celebration of Black excellence across music, film, sport and culture, bringing together some of the industry’s biggest names for a night that balanced celebration with unforgettable performances and emotional moments.

While the red carpet delivered no shortage of standout fashion, it was Teyana Taylor who ultimately owned the evening. The multi-hyphenate walked away with four awards, including Icon of the Year, Best Actress, Fashion Vanguard and Video Director of the Year, cementing one of the most dominant nights in recent BET Awards history.

Elsewhere, Cardi B and Kendrick Lamar continued their winning streaks, while artists including Doechii, RAYE and GloRilla kept audiences on their feet with performances that reminded viewers why the BET Awards remains one of music’s strongest live stages.

One of the evening’s most moving moments came with a star-studded tribute to D’Angelo, featuring performances from Ari Lennox, RAYE, Durand Bernarr, BJ the Chicago Kid, George Clinton and more. The set was introduced by his children, Morocco, Imani and Swayvo, who delivered an emotional message to the audience: “To the world, he was D’Angelo; to us, he was just Dad. Our biggest hypeman and protector.” They added that one of his greatest joys was performing alongside his band, The Vanguard, making their appearance on stage alongside the night’s special guests a fitting celebration of his enduring legacy.

If that wasn’t enough, Lauryn Hill received the inaugural Living Legend Icon Award, awarded to her by Ice Cube. The tribute, featuring appearances from SZA, Nas and Doechii, celebrated an artist whose influence continues to shape generations of musicians across hip-hop, R&B and soul.

Fashion remained just as much a talking point as the awards themselves. From Teyana Taylor’s commanding red carpet looks to appearances from Cardi B, who debuted a new look, Coco Jones, Victoria Monét and Kehlani.
