The Former First Lady Honours Her Late Mother in Bespoke Acne Studios
Michelle Obama made a moving fashion statement this week, stepping out in a custom Acne Studios look for the opening reception of the Obama Center in Chicago.
Commissioned by longtime stylist Meredith Koop, the bespoke skirt reworked imagery from photographer Paul Kooiker’s work, first presented at Acne Paper’s Palais Royal Gallery in Paris and later featured in Acne Studios’ Fall ’26 collection. For Obama’s version, the design was reimagined with a portrait of her late mother, Marian Robinson, as a young woman.
The custom piece brought together personal tribute and high fashion, ensuring her mother’s presence was felt during another milestone moment for the Obama family.
