'Fine Athletic Fashions.'
France has Jacquemus, Spain has Loewe, but Mexico has Willy Chavarria. Whilst you wouldn’t commonly associate a luxury fashion brand with football, Willy Chavarria is different. His longstanding collaborations with adidas along with the relaxed silhouettes from his own namesake label, prove that he is the perfect man to dress a national football team. Unlike most luxury labels that pander to a bourgeois market, Chavarria embraces South American working-class culture as the blueprint for his brand.
Chavarria and adidas tapped Ricardo Arenas and Mexican Dorian Ulises López Macías to style and photograph their campaign. Titled ‘Comienza con el sueño’, Spanish for ‘It all begins with a dream’, the campaign is captured on a remote football ground. The line-up includes a track jacket merging three logos together (adidas, Willy Chavarria, and the Mexico team symbol) with forest green baggy jerseys and shorts co-ords. Sweatshirts, long sleeves, and a streamlined black blazer take the football fit outside the terrain.
adidas x Willy Chavarria’s collection will be available on the 10th of June via adidas.co.uk/willy_chavarria. Check out the campaign below.
