Burberry is marking its 170th anniversary with a new display at London’s V&A South Kensington, celebrating the history and enduring influence of one of fashion’s most recognisable garments: the trench coat.

Titled The Burberry Trench: Crafting an Icon, the free exhibition brings together rare pieces from the Burberry Archive alongside works from the V&A’s own collection, charting the trench coat’s evolution from military outerwear to a symbol of British design recognised around the world.

Staged in the museum’s rarely opened Prince Consort Gallery, the display explores how the trench has continually adapted across generations while remaining rooted in craftsmanship, innovation and timeless style. Visitors will also gain a closer look at Burberry’s heritage through archival materials that highlight the House’s role in shaping modern outerwear.

Running from the 21st September 2026 to the 3rd January 2027, the exhibition offers a rare opportunity to explore the story behind one of fashion’s most iconic designs and the legacy of a brand that has helped define British luxury for nearly two centuries. Will you be attending?
