Not many can match the peculiar artistic brilliance of Tim Burton, whose worlds have always existed somewhere between the macabre and the magnificent. His characters are instantly recognisable, yet filled with enough strange, intricate detail to keep us looking. Robert Wun’s latest creation feels like it belongs in that same universe.
Reimagining Jack Skellington through couture, Wun has covered the look in an extraordinary 260,000 ivory satin-shined bugle beads, turning Burton’s skeletal protagonist into something almost sculptural. The sheer scale of the handwork is impressive, but it is the restraint that makes it so striking. Every bead contributes to the familiar bones, elongated proportions and hauntingly elegant silhouette.
Burton created the character; but Robert Wun has given him another life. This creation is two distinctly theatrical minds, proving that fashion can do more than reference art and film. At its best.
