While the city has become increasingly popular as a destination for luxury resorts, it still feels worlds away from the better-known cities of mainland China. From the moment of arrival, Rosewood Sanya feels luxurious and incredibly relaxing. The resort stretches across expansive grounds, with lush greenery and water features throughout, while the South China Sea is visible from across the property. There is a private beachfront, spots to stop for a coffee or ice cream, boutiques and pop-ups to discover, but nothing feels rushed or overwhelming. Instead, the resort encourages guests to slow down and take in the beauty and more relaxed pace of Sanya.

With 244 rooms and suites, Rosewood Sanya offers a wide range of accommodation, from 68 sqm Ocean View Rooms to expansive pool suites and residences. The emphasis, however, is less on simply having a place to sleep and more on making the room part of the escape.

East Kitchen serves comfort food inspired by Southeast Asian dishes, with the Singapore stir-fried rice and mango sticky rice among the standout dishes. The Fishmonger focuses on fresh seafood in a Hainan market-style setting, while Chop House specialises in steaks and seafood. Mayan Beach Bar offers a more relaxed spot by the sea, while HAI also doubles as a bar and serves afternoon tea. The Lounge occupies the 14th floor, offering cocktails, wines and light bites.

Breakfast is another highlight, with an extensive spread of continental breakfast options, freshly prepared dishes, dim sum and seasonal fruits.

Local produce also features across the resort’s dining experiences, with the South China Sea, Hainan’s fishing traditions and the culinary heritage of the Dan Jia people all influencing the menus.

Above Sanya

On top of everything the resort has to offer, the feeling of serenity doesn’t end on the grounds. One of its standout spots is found high above. More than just a bar, HAI is also home to the hotel’s infinity pool, situated on the 13th floor and offering breathtaking views of the South China Sea. The 110-metre infinity-edge pool gives guests a completely different perspective from the beach below, with picturesque views stretching across the coastline towards Wuzhizhou Island. With sunbeds and cabanas available throughout the day, it’s the perfect place to lay out while taking in the views from sunrise through to sunset.
