One to Watch: ESQUE/BY

ESQUE/BY is a New York based brand founded by technologist JJ Lee, an initial graduate of computational and systems biology, who found her way into fashion, using AI and technology to explore form and proportion, and holding clients at the centre of their clothing, discussing the creation of their items before it is even made.

As opposed to relying on traditional body structures for fashion, ESQUE/BY decides to tailor it’s clothing to each and every individual, meaning that each item is not like the other, using menswear as a standpoint for it’s bold approach, reinvented into a feminine alignment. New York also serves as a massive inspiration too; using the sharp contrasts of the city as a backdrop to ESQUE/BY’s styling. Lee’s plans are to create a brand in which fashion, craftsmanship and education can all live together, a novel approach which encourages customers to not only buy their items and wear them, but also learn and know about the people and the ideas behind it, as in Lee’s words, she says, ‘Growth shouldn’t require us to move further away from our makers.’ ESQUE/BY is currently developing their debut ready to wear collection, set to launch before the end of the year.
