Vatísimo.
Just days after announcing that John Galliano would embark on a two-year collaboration with Zara, the American designer Willy Chavarria has joined the conversation. Chavarria will produce both a men’s and women’s collection, launching later this week. This isn’t his first collaboration—he has previously made waves in the Adidas space with seasonal capsules and standout designs. For this project with Zara, he brings his signature “Chicano” style, reimagined through a formalwear lens.
The upcoming Zara collection is titled ‘VATÍSIMO’, a colloquial term in the Chicano community that refers to chosen family. The collection features a curated selection of Chavarria’s hallmarks: tailored pieces with broad, padded shoulders in a macho ’80s silhouette, three-quarter-length chinos, bodysuits, leather outerwear, and a range of accessories. To accompany the launch, Chavarria has enlisted ‘90s supermodel Christy Turlington to front the campaign.
Set to launch globally on 26 March, the Willy Chavarria x Zara collaboration is already shaping up to be one of the most anticipated releases of the year.
