Maison Margiela presented their Fall/Winter 2026 collection for the first time in Shanghai. Themes of anonymity were explored in the act of covering of all seventy six models’ faces. Each mask came in a variety of forms whether it was mesh, leather, netting, lace, or something completely out of the ordinary – transforming each model into a character in Glen Martin’s universe. One particular form was a stone-like structure appearing similar to Marvel’s comic character, Rockman.
Rockman’s alleged origin was a man who survived a mine explosion and ended up being reborn with super human powers. In a similar rebirth, Martins revives the Edwardian era through draped dresses with extended proportions that are made to resemble porcelain figures. Actual relics from the early 19th century, such as a painting found on the ground of a market and destroyed tapestries, find their way onto the garments. Discarded materials like old jewellery are transformed into a cast in a restoration of what came before.
