The Rise of Wellness Dentistry: How Celebrities Fix Their Smiles Without Anyone Noticing

By April 11, 2026Guest Post

Valued at £165 billion, the UK’s wellness industry is booming. One corner of the market that’s still relatively untapped, though, is wellness dentistry. Popular amongst celebrities but yet to reach mainstream trends, could this be the key to subtle smile upgrades that don’t require full-on transformations?

Let’s take a closer look.

What is Wellness Dentistry

Wellness dentistry takes a holistic approach to oral healthcare. Rather than viewing the mouth as an isolated area of your body, it connects your dental health to your overall well-being and looks for more well-rounded approaches to dental treatments.

This ethos considers how factors like nutrition, stress, sleep, and lifestyle habits influence oral health, and how oral conditions, in turn, impacts the rest of the body. It’s been found, for instance, that there’s a link between periodontal disease and cardiovascular disease, changing how we view the importance of a healthy mouth.

Instead of focusing solely on treating symptoms, wellness dentistry also values preventative care and education. Celebrities aren’t waiting for problems to arise, but are acting now to be proactive rather than reactive.

Celebrities With Subtly Fixed Smiles

There are lots of celebrity smiles that don’t cater to the Hollywood aesthetic. These are teeth that have been cared for, undoubtedly, but with an approach that better aligns with wellness dentistry rather than cosmetic dentistry.

Zendaya is a perfect example. From afar, you’d almost believe that she has veneers, but up close, you can see those variations that make her smile naturally beautiful. She definitely has her teeth whitened and possibly has a few subtle restorations, but they’re done so discreetly you’d barely notice.

Our guess is that she’s taking the preventative approach to her oral health, and it’s certainly paying off.Zendaya x ON / PHOTO CREDIT: Getty Images

How Wellness Dentistry Transforms Celebrity Teeth

So, how do our favourite celebrities do it? To learn more about how the world’s stars are maintaining their perfect smiles, let’s take a look at how wellness dentistry works in practice.

Regular Dental Check-Ups

A staple of wellness dentistry is regular, full-scale dental check-ups. Most celebrities visit their dentist at least once every six months, though some may go more frequently for regular maintenance.

These appointments focus on assessing dental hygiene and spotting signs of potential issues. By visiting frequently, dentists can prioritise early detection and implement preventative treatments, making dental issues far easier to treat and manage.

Every check-up will include a thorough cleaning, too. This is essential for maintaining the bright, white smile that’s become a staple of the Hollywood aesthetic.

Advanced and Subtle Cosmetic Dental Treatments

Celebrities have access to a wide range of advanced and subtle treatments that align with wellness dentistry. These allow them to fix their smile without going to extremes. Popular treatments include:

  • Invisalign, which is likely more common with celebrities than we know. These discreet, almost invisible adult braces straighten teeth for a uniform smile, all while removing the need for the clunky metal tracks of traditional braces.

  • Composite bonding, which allows dentists to subtly reshape the teeth and fix small chips, all with minimal downtime

  • Gum contouring, which uses lasers to gently reshape the gumline, for a more symmetrical smile.

Together, these treatments enhance the natural smile in a way that’s subtle and minimally invasive. Rather than dramatic transformations, the focus is on improvements that support long-term oral health while maintaining a natural look.

A Teeth-Friendly Lifestyle

Wellness dentistry doesn’t just focus on oral health, but the well-being of the entire body. Celebrities who practice this approach are likely to maintain consistent healthy habits recommended by their dentist, based on what we know of the links between the mouth and the body.

This includes maintaining a low-sugar diet, staying well-hydrated, and limiting acidic foods and drinks that wear down enamel. Managing stress is also vital, as high levels of cortisol are known to cause teeth grinding (bruxism) and gum inflammation.

Wellness dentistry emphasises the importance of gut health, too, which is closely linked to oral health. An imbalance in your gut bacteria increases your likelihood of gum disease, cavities, and infections, making this a priority for a flawless, natural smile.

Biocompatible Restorations

Biocompatible restorations are subtle dental upgrades rooted in the wellness industry. Rather than relying on materials that may not interact cohesively with the body, these treatments use modern, body-friendly alternatives, like ceramic crowns and zirconia.

For celebrities, this kind of dentistry is particularly appealing because it’s so discreet. Biocompatible restorations are purposely designed to look just like teeth, making them indistinguishable from the real thing (even under the unforgiving lens of cameras and bright lights!).

Integrative Healthcare

Embracing the holistic side of wellness dentistry, some celebrities are likely to take an integrated approach to their oral care. Rather than working alone, their dentist will liaise with the celebrity’s wider health team to diagnose, treat, and prevent issues.

For instance, the dentist might notice issues like reduced saliva and slow healing within the mouth, which are signs of diabetes. Rather than treating them solely from a dental perspective, they’ll speak to the patient’s private doctor and ask them to run blood tests. Working together, the two teams will work to diagnose and then treat the patient.

From a ‘perfect smile’ point of view, integrated care is essential. It ensures that any underlying issues that could affect the mouth are addressed early on, while focusing on long-term results that support overall health.

Wellness and the Hollywood Smile

While veneers and ultra-white smiles are likely to always have their place in the world of celebrities, we are seeing a subtle shift. Miley Cyrus has more discreet veneers, Aimee Lou Wood’s natural smile is iconic, and Cynthia Erivo is vocal about avoiding transformative treatments like veneers. Could it be that wellness is taking over?

For the Hollywood smile, this would mean a turning point. The focus would no longer be on covering up imperfections with caps and extreme whitening, but on treating the mouth as part of the larger picture of well-being.

Teeth wouldn’t be viewed solely as an aesthetic to be perfected, but as a part of our wider health, which needs to be supported and maintained. This might take the form of fewer full-coverage veneers and more subtle options, like bonding and enamel-preserving treatments.

Final Thoughts

The ins and outs of celebrity dental routines will, for the most part, always be a mystery. What we do know, though, is that wellness is a hit amongst the Hollywood crowd, in whatever form it takes. When it comes to wellness dentistry, we have a sneaking suspicion that Hollywood’s elite will already be embracing it.
