A closer look at a standout of Stone Island’s latest collection.
Stone Island let us into their studio in a new video which details the process behind one of their more striking pieces: the tortoiseshell Raso jacket. We see how the jacket begins in its untreated form, constructed in a specialist military fabric, before being garment-dyed, then having a ‘corrosive paste’ applied to it to create contrast. The jacket is then hand-painted, to generate the unique tortoise-inspired pattern. This is a remarkable insight into a laborious and masterful process, which results in a run of jackets, each one of which is unique.
