Rihanna debuts gothic streetwear collection for ‘Fenty x PUMA’ at NYFW.
Following the roaring success of her last collection with Puma, which comprised entirely of footwear, a slew of devotees made one thing evident – they wanted more. Thankfully, (and no doubt, excitedly) Puma offered Rihanna carte blanche on her Autumn/Winter 2016 collection for the popular athleisure brand, the ‘work’ star elaborated, “They were willing to let me be creative and express myself in whatever way I wanted to” – as it should be.
Although womenswear (unfortunately) was the main focus of the day, several ultra desirable, effortlessly wearable looks for men also graced the catwalk. Seemingly taking inspiration from the gothic, grunge streetwear aesthetic executed so brilliantly by NYC label ‘Hood By Air’; the collection perfectly fused the athleisure nature of Puma and, indeed, Rihanna’s own personal style.
Oversized outerwear, slouching tracksuit bottoms, lace onesies, hoodies and, of course, an enviable selection of footwear flew the Fenty flag for the men. Our favourite? It’s got to be the oversized cuddly hoodie that’ll no doubt be a holiday season favourite.
Let’s face it, regardless of how the fashion crowd took to Rihanna’s latest venture as creative director of Puma, it’s going to sell out. With the loyal Rihanna ‘Navy’ supporting her every move, whether it’s via Dior or Stance socks, she’s one of the hottest candidates for product endorsement in the modern age. With a killer flair for the sartorially satisfying, however, we can’t see Puma letting her go anytime soon.
