How Fashion Can Give You the Edge in a Casino

By October 19, 2017Fashion News

Before you visit a casino you’ll usually check out the dress code they have. Most of the time these are smart or at least smart-casual, especially if you’re visiting a high-class casino. But what tips can you get from high-profile poker players who have, quite literally, dressed for success?

You might have heard the saying ‘you are what you eat’ but the same could be said about what you wear too. Your outfit gives off an impression about you, your confidence and your overall personality. And when you’re hitting the casinos, you want to make sure you look like you’re oozing poise and self-assurance.

So, whether you’re heading to the Let It Ride table (because you’ve been given a stellar let it ride strategy) or you’re hitting the poker table, here are some great ideas on what you can wear:

Sunglasses

There are some suggestions that people can see into your soul through your eyes, which is why some of the world’s most renowned poker players (e.g. Greg ‘Fossilman’ Raymer) choose to wear glasses when they’re at the poker table. This isn’t because the lights are too bright, it’s because it helps disguise what they’re thinking, and helps them keep that elusive ‘poker face’ intact.

Hats and Baseball Caps

Even though these accessories might not fall into the ‘smart’ category, you will often find a lot of poker players wearing a certain type of hat or cap – take Chris ‘Jesus’ Ferguson, for example. For some, this may just be a fashion accessory, but for others the shade the cap gives half of their face is usually a great way to cover up any tell-tale signs they may be giving away.

Beards and Moustaches

Granted, it’s highly unlikely you’ll be sitting around a poker table with someone who’s stuck on a beard or moustache for the night; however you may find some of the top players have grown these for the event. Andy Black is known for growing facial hair, using it to mask some of his facial expressions when he’s playing in a tournament.

Sponsored Clothing

Nothing is going to make you look more confident than sponsored clothing, and when you get to the top of your game, a lot of gambling sites will be eager to dress you in their attire. As soon as you come up against an opponent, they’ll quake in their boots to see someone who’s dressed from head-to-toe in sponsored gear because this is a sure sign they’re good at the game.

What Not to Wear

Finally, there are some things you should avoid at all costs, regardless of what casino you’re visiting. Jewellery is never a good idea because you might start playing with it absentmindedly when you’re getting nervous or are wondering what move to play. Equally, female players should always avoid skimpy, low-cut outfits as, even though it may distract male players, it’s not the way to demonstrate natural abilities or show a professional edge.

Even though you’ll need to make sure your outfit is in line with the casino’s requirements, the above accessories are a great way of making a fashion and confidence statement. And if you’re still not sure what to wear on your first visit to the casino, play it safe and take some tips from your fellow gamblers before adding some of these must-have accessories to your wardrobe.
