From Yeezy to YZY.

Kanye West has announced a ten-year creative partnership with Gap under his brand YEEZY. The musician and designer will be creating an affordable range of menswear, womenswear and kids’ clothes, continuing to create Footwear with German label Adidas.

The first appointment in this creative endeavour has been announced as Nigerian designer Mowalola Ogunlesi, who will act as Design Director. Having been seen rocking Mowalola’s clothes along with his wife Kim Kardashian many times recently, it is clear that Kanye is a fan of her designs which have been taking over the fashion industry as of late.

Kanye has a long history with Gap, as one of his first jobs in Chicago as a teen was as a retail sales assistant at the brands Chicago store. Writing in Paper Magazine, he said, “It’s funny that I worked at the Gap in high school, because in my past 15 years it seems like that’s the place I stood in my creative path to be the gap, the bridge… When I was working at the Gap at 15, I don’t think I had any desire to actually make clothes, but I always felt like that’s what I wanted to be around. I loved the fabrics, I loved the colors, I loved the proportions,”

Speaking on the collaboration, Mark Breitbard, global head of Gap Brand, mentioned in a press release that “We are excited to welcome Kanye back to the Gap family as a creative visionary, building on the aesthetic and success of his YEEZY brand and together defining a next-level retail partnership,”

With the partnership set to release in 2021, stay tuned as further details should follow in the next coming weeks.
