Little Simz to be named Cultural Innovator at the Fashion Awards

Music, fashion, and storytelling.

This Monday, 1st December, the Royal Albert Hall in London will host the latest edition of The Fashion Awards, organised by the British Fashion Council and presented by Pandora. Among those honoured will be Little Simz, who will receive The Cultural Innovator Award.

The British rapper is a multi-award-winning artist who first gained recognition after winning Breakthrough Artist of the Year at Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Awards. Her debut album, A Curious Tale of Trials + Persons (2015), won Independent Album of the Year at the AIM Awards. She has recently completed an international tour in support of her latest studio album, Lotus.

Alongside her music career, this year she became the youngest curator of the Southbank Centre’s Meltdown Festival, following in the footsteps of icons such as David Bowie and Nile Rodgers. She also had a leading role in the film STEVE, alongside Cillian Murphy.

With the Cultural Innovator Award, the British Fashion Council celebrates a leading innovator and image-maker in the entertainment industry, who has had a profound impact on the fashion world and broader culture. “She is fearless in her creativity, uncompromising in her honesty, and endlessly inventive in the way she brings music, fashion, and storytelling together,” said Laura Weir, Chief Executive of the British Fashion Council.
