Stella McCartney Debuts Horse-Inspired Appaloosa Bag

By September 8, 2026FASHION NEWS

A bag with plenty of room to roam.

Meet the horse behind Stella McCartney’s latest bag. No, really. The Appaloosa takes its name – and plenty of inspo – from the designer’s childhood memories, including Lucky Spot, the iconic stallion once owned by her mother, Linda McCartney.

Indeed, to understand where the bag comes from, you have to go back to the family farm. McCartney grew up in East Sussex surrounded by the Appaloosas her parents bred and rode together. As the brand explains:

“Stella grew up surrounded by Foundation Appaloosas on her family farm in East Sussex, bred by her parents and ridden together throughout the British countryside. Among them was Lucky Spot, her mother Linda McCartney’s treasured Appaloosa stallion, whose distinctive spotted coat and gentle, playful spirit has become synonymous with some of Stella’s happiest memories.”

When it comes to the piece itself, the Appaloosa is a soft, unstructured day bag handcrafted in Italy from luxury vegan leather alternatives. Its relaxed silhouette comes with equestrian-inspired details and arrives in black, whipstitched red and tactile leopard jacquard. There are two bucket sizes to choose from, alongside a new crossbody wristlet shape.

The design also takes cues from the Appaloosa horse’s distinctive markings, which naturally evolve over time. In much the same way, the bag is designed to mould to its wearer and their ever-changing style.

You can cop the Appaloosa bag now via the Stella McCartney website and select retailers.
