After the success of collaborating with British Designer T.Lipop, River Island has announced that Joseph Turvey will be working on the spring summer 2014 collection. Joseph commenced his initial fashion studies with a BA in Fashion Design in 2010 and then went on to complete a MA in Menswear Design Technology at London College of Fashion. He has received much recognition for his work since graduating and was deemed “one to watch” at LFW’s Menswear Day and since then he has never looked back.
Turvey works with bold colour palettes and has an experimental take with fabric meaning that the collaboration is sure to be an exciting one. His unique style and illustration has garnered himself a deserved reputation as one of the most refreshing and innovative designers of his generation.
What we can look forward to see in the SS14 collection is a constant element of ‘playful pink’ infused with camouflage. Visually, it is a strong theme and plays off chic elements of luxe sportswear making a new take on 90s street wear culture.
Joseph Turvey says that “River Islands presence on the high street is incredible, they really push boundaries and are completely design led in their approach, so this seemed like a natural collaboration for me.” His starting point for the collection was the work of Jamel Shabazz, influencing the fabrications, colour and silhouettes in the collection.
To celebrate the launch River Island will be presenting a film at London Collections: Men in January. This will see RI team up with Joseph Turvey on a project directed by Alex Turvey as part of the Fash/On Film initiative.
The 16 piece collection will be available to buy in selected stores and online from the end of February 2014.
