End of an Era.
After months of swirling speculation, it has officially been announced that John Galliano is departing Maison Margiela.
In what came as pretty expected news, John Galliano’s departure comes 10 years after the Gibraltarian designer stepped through the door at the luxury French fashion house, having laid down a significant legacy during that time. Exiting on the overwhelming success of his Maison Margiela Artisanal show in January, Galliano took to social media to share the news of his departure, underlining his gratitude for Mason Margiela, a house that provided him with a new start on the back of various personal issues and a media scandal, whilst also touching on the subject of his new position:
“The rumours…Everyone wants to know and everyone wants to dream. When the time is right, all will be revealed. For now, I take this time to express my immense gratitude. I continue to atone and will never stop dreaming.”
Chairman of Maison Margiela and owner of OTB Group, Renzo Rosso, also weighed in on Galliano’s exit and time at the house:
“Working with John was one of the most significant and impactful experiences of my life. He mentored me and showed me his vision, enriching me culturally and allowing me to bring some of that vision and culture to the rest of the Group. I feel privileged to have worked with two legends like Martin (Margiela) and John. Martin made this house a reference and an icon, John made it the most cutting-edge couture house in the world.”
