Dior Gets Into the Holiday Spirit With a New Animated Film

And you need to see it!

If there’s one thing becoming increasingly certain in the fashion industry right now, it’s that the new luxury is human craft. In a landscape saturated with digital perfection and increasingly automated imagery, the handmade, the imperfect, and the distinctly human are becoming increasingly desirable. Dior seems to understand this shift, turning to French animator Sylvain Chomet for its latest holiday campaign: a hand-drawn animated film that brings the house’s universe to life through illustration and cinematic storytelling.
Set in Paris in the winter of 1949, the film follows a fictional encounter sparked by a late-night call from Marlene Dietrich, unfolding into a race against time to create a couture gown worthy of the screen legend. With Jonathan Anderson overseeing the creative vision and Robert Pattinson narrating, the project brings together fashion, cinema and animation in a nostalgic yet distinctly contemporary tribute to the art of making.
Featuring appearances from Rihanna, Greta Lee, Josh O’Connor and Camille Cottin, the film revisits Dior’s long-standing relationship with Hollywood while offering a different perspective on what luxury can look and feel like today. Extending beyond the film into Dior’s festive window displays and a seasonal offering of fashion, accessories and homeware, the project makes a subtle but timely statement: perhaps the ultimate expression of luxury is no longer simply what something costs, but the time, imagination and craftsmanship it takes to create it.
