What Went Down: “El Clásico” Weekend with Spotify, FC Barcelona, & Tyler, the Creator

Spotify & Tyler, the Creator Took Over Barcelona.

Becoming the ninth artist to take over the FC Barcelona jersey with Spotify, Tyler, the Creator was in town for this year’s “El Clásico” weekend at the Spotify Camp Nou, and he shut the city down in more ways than one.

As per usual, Tyler, the Creator put his plethora of talents on display across an action-packed weekend in Barcelona, Spain, taking over the streets with his new GOLF Wang jersey. Teaming up with Spotify and FC Barcelona, the LA-born, multi-genre musician-cum-designer became the latest in a long line of talent to adorn the front of FC Barcelona’s iconic red and blue home strip, with contemporaries Travis Scott, Rosalia, Olivia Rodrigo and more having blessed the Blaugrana jersey over the years. Aside from that, Tyler made history away from the Barca strip, with the “Sticky” star having had full control of the entire creative process. Being just one component of the world Tyler cultivated over the weekend, the jersey joined a Tyler, the Creator-directed short ad, an exclusive – and extensive – Spotify x GOLF WANG x FC Barcelona clothing collection, as well as the Copa De Golf, a celebratory night in the heart of Barcelona that merged together football, music, and fashion.

On the cusp of El Clásico weekend, PAUSE joined up with Spotify, FC Barcelona, and Tyler, the Creator to see what went down, so get your inside look below. (Spoiler, we had a blast.)

Arriving in the form of a two-night double-header, Spotify’s Barcelona x Tyler, the Creator-lead weekend saw PAUSE arrive in town to a tangible buzz. The streets continually filled with the most loyal of Culés as the warmth of the coastal city of Barcelona turned to a visceral heat, with Barca’s own knowing just how much this El Clásico meant both on and off the field. Pouring their unending energy into everything FC Barcelona throughout the weekend, fans and trip attendees alike hit Spotify’s impromptu pop-up space in the centre of Barcelona, known as “Creator’s Àgora.” The space was curated by Barca born-and-bred design director and artist, Daniel 200, and champions the culture of Barcelona through various nods to archival art and photography, as well as music, spotlighting local Barcelona talent in the process. The interactive exhibition was clad with Barca brilliance from top to bottom, whilst Tyler, the Creator’s fingerprints remained firmly across everything in sight. From his music videos and vinyls to his latest GOLF WANG collaboration with Spotify and FC Barcelona, the expansive space was stacked.

As expected, the collection itself took centre stage, with the full range being on display throughout the pop-up. From the FC Barcelona x Spotify x GOLF WANG x Nike football shirt and classic blue short sleeve jersey to a heritage-style zip-up track jacket and letterman jacket, the Barca faithful are being kept fed with this new collection. Additional highlights include a black and turquoise long-sleeve jersey, a zip-up “Quake” hoodie, as well as a pair of leopard-print socks, and if you know anything about GOLF WANG, you know that’s a timeless print.

If you want to get up-close and personal with the new collection, it’s available to buy now via FC Barcelona’s website here.

Moving closer towards game day, Spotify, FC Barcelona, and Tyler, the Creator’s GOLF WANG warmed up with an evening that was firmly “for the people,” debuting Copa De Golf – a joyous night in the heart of Barcelona that combined swirling elements of football, music, and fashion together. Stepping down into a bar space, and then a shop, and then a dance floor, and then something else entirely, Copa De Golf was the full actualisation of Tyler, the Creator’s hands-on vision, uniting elements of GOLF WANG’s creative world through GOLF WANG founding member Yung Taco’s leading DJ set and a curated selection of standout acts originating from Barcelona’s local scene, such as Bexnil, Alu, duna, and Mushkaa. As guests and fans mingled, partied, shopped, and conversed, one thing became abundantly clear: this was the spirit of FC Barcelona. The word community comes to mind. As the night progressed, energies shifted around the room as music filled the air in abundance, cultivating a real, palpable in-real-life experience. In a digital age where content is king, this very much felt like a night of old in the best way possible.

Despite the result not going FC Barcelona’s way on El Clásico night, that celebratory feeling from the previous night’s Copa De Golf festivities stayed in the mix, as players took to the pitch adorning a GOLF logo-laden FC Barcelona jersey in style and Tyler, the Creator brought his imitable energy. A weekend that showcased the best of Barcelona both on and off the pitch, Spotify x FC Barcelona x Tyler the Creator’s GOLF WANG might prove to be the club’s best artist link-up to date.
