Comic Relief weekend seems a more than apt point to highlight the great work of Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). Often overlooked, this organisation works in nearly 70 countries providing medical aid to those most in need regardless of their race, religion, or political affiliation. Police Eyewear is celebrating its thirty-year anniversary through the “Look Beyond” initiative which includes a beautifully made book of photographs and special edition sunglasses to support the “Forgotten Crises” of Doctors Without Borders.

What really sparked the boom of the “Man Bag”? Well its always been popular, the fashion-forward, athletic and hipster. However, the recent expansion of these male accessories have been obvious. London Fashion Week brought the spot light back to bags, there was no denying that the man and his bag are seemingly becoming one, so what can be expected of this new trend?

Research collated from years of styling, shopping and even simple conversation with men, have led to the realisation that, there are 3 approaches to purchasing a bag; Style, Size and Signature;  this covers  practicality, functionality and masculinity, all things that are contributing factors to selecting the perfect bag. With so many different shapes, styles and sizes there’s something for every gentleman.

For the most hesitant, try before you buy. It takes some time to get used to having a bag. Playing it safe is smart. Don’t go out buying anything too expensive, most men lose them within a few days. We at PAUSE would not even recommend putting anything of value in a man’s bag until enthusiasts are confident that it stays with them at all times.

The Satchels or Messenger Bag
A great foundation for men is a great quality neutral colored Satchel or Messenger. Most males  won’t feel like there diving into the uncomfortable zone. Its also safe because it comes in many colors, textures and feels relatable. Great for the Brooklyn Hipster or the Ralph Lauren lover.

The Duffle
Ideal for the Gym Goer and the Weekender. This bag can perform well under pressure of any job, usually just the right size,  not overbearing, extremely versatile and looks great in canvas and leather. Meaning, it can flow with, and even upgrade any wardrobe.

The Briefcase
Nope, its not just for business men any more. Once adorned by the Wall Street walkers, the briefcase has taken a new shape. With so many now using laptops, iPads and what-nots the briefcase has been in high demand. Now sleek, slimmer and less boxy. The briefcase comes in the usual business forward form down to a practical messenger.

The Backpack
The good ‘ol backpack. Great for the student, casual man, athlete and metro living lover. Backpacks can be given a quick stylish update with trend worthy colors or patterns.

The Tote
Not like the duffle, its more work to pull this off. This is for men who carry a lot and want a fashion forward approach. Confidence is key, with the idea of it being a bit more feminine, those who opt for the tote may want to purchase something more rugged. Canvas, Suede and Leather are awesome. However, men totes are completely stylist. A perfect optiion for those who like to experiment more with their wardrobes.

The Clutch
Yes, it’s possible. There are men clutch bags. Its comes down to confidence, style and signature.  What message are you aiming to convey? What is your destination?  These are the only appllicable questions needed when purchasing a clutch bag, or any trendy bag for that matter. Dolce&Gabbana, Bottega Veneta,Karl Lagerfeld, all have taken on the man bag and even footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has been seen to adorn the piece. Give it a try!
