Rick Owens debuts a new collection in Paris with an awe inspiration production at Palais de Tokyo. The collection consisting of classic Owens unrestrained proportions and a dramatic take on classic tailoring.
Rick Owens is a designer unlike any other operating at his level and productivity. He is an enigma; one that displays his view on the future of humanity through his fashion, this in itself is worth examining yet Owens goes a step further every time. He sees a dystopian future for us all, one in which mankind is not thriving as expected. This view on the world has led Owens to be critically acclaimed in recent seasons; giving him collaborations with Adidas and prime slots to exhibit his works at Paris Fashion Week. However, this beautiful dark twisted fantasy he has created has made his shows redundant of criticism. He has achieved acclaim and huge collaborations and due to this he can be left alone in his own world; here, he is God – the creator of an alternative universe in which he states ‘I’ve built a place where—I hope—people who may have otherwise been outsiders can feel welcome.’
