There is something particularly compelling about a new fashion brand that manages to establish a recognisable identity almost as soon as it launches. Since debuting in May 2026, SIDE EYE has already been spotted on some of the industry’s most influential women, including Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Kaia Gerber, Vittoria Ceretti and Laura Harrier. For an independently founded label, that level of early recognition is impressive. But beyond the celebrity sightings, what makes SIDE EYE interesting is the thinking behind the brand, its approach to modern luxury and the direction it is beginning to establish.
At a time when the luxury market is increasingly crowded with brands competing for attention, SIDE EYE feels like an interesting case study in how a clear creative vision, considered product design and cultural relevance can come together to build momentum.

Founded by Athina and Leila, two German-born entrepreneurs who met while attending Columbia Business School in New York, SIDE EYE was built around a simple observation: the eyewear market often leaves consumers choosing between affordable, trend-driven designs and established luxury labels carrying significantly higher price tags.
The founders saw an opportunity to offer something different: distinctive design, exceptional Italian craftsmanship and a strong brand identity, without relying on traditional luxury conventions.
Designed in New York and handcrafted in Italy by independent, family-run manufacturers, the collection combines premium materials, Zeiss lenses and recognisable silhouettes, with prices starting at approximately $290.
What stands out is the brand’s apparent understanding that modern luxury is no longer defined by a logo alone. Increasingly, consumers are drawn to products that feel distinctive, considered and personal. SIDE EYE’s designs lean into that idea, balancing sophistication with a playful, slightly irreverent New York attitude.
One of SIDE EYE’s more appealing details is the way its founders have incorporated their own experiences into the collection. Each frame is named after a meaningful New York address, turning the sunglasses into a personal map of the city and the friendships, memories and experiences that shaped the business.
One of the earliest designs, 141 Waverly Place, references the location where Athina and Leila would meet for coffee while developing their vision for the brand.
Their appeal lies in the combination of a clear product proposition and an identity that feels rooted in contemporary culture. The designs have personality, the founders have a compelling story, and the brand is already attracting attention in an industry where establishing visibility can take years.
Its next challenge will be turning that early excitement into something more enduring. Developing an international retail presence, creating meaningful community experiences and continuing to introduce considered collections and collaborations could all help strengthen the brand’s position, provided its growth remains consistent with the identity that made it interesting in the first place.
Ultimately, SIDE EYE represents a broader shift in how independent luxury brands can approach the market. Traditional heritage and large-scale advertising are no longer the only routes to recognition. A distinctive point of view, cultural relevance and a product that people genuinely want to wear can be equally powerful starting points.
