“This will be my first show on the international stage, I am so glad and honoured to be supported by GQ China and to present young design power from China, to the world.” – Sean Suen
Following successful collections showcased at London Collections: Men, GQ China proudly present the SEAN SUEN Spring/Summer 2016 collection. This year, LCM demonstrates the increasing importance of Chinese menswear in London and on the global stage, by continuing to commit to developing and nurturing emerging Chinese talent, in partnership with GQ China.
Kick-starting its project in Beijing 2012, SEAN SUEN has since manoeuvred its designs under the three key principles – amusing, dynamic and chic. With each garment having to be defined and characterised correspondingly to this standard, SEAN SUEN has created a platform that now shapes the brands ethos. Paying close attention to detail, each piece is individually regarded as a small project, ensuring that every collection is managed with paramount importance. The brand focuses on stylish and functional silhouettes by producing garments with contrasting cuts and intricately layered mixed fabrics.
SEAN SUEN manifests inspiration taken from his “journey to the West,” in his Spring/Summer 2016 collection. By doing this, the designer incorporates the myriad of cultures and exotic locations in which he experienced on his travels, and amalgamates them with his Chinese heritage, to create an assortment of unique garments.
The masculinity and structure of the European suit is matched with the elegance and grace of the Chinese robe, with the traditional tailoring of a suit being loosened with the fluidity of Chinese silk. The collection featured a variety of loosely pinstriped tailored pants amongst other various different patterns. Embellished in a red houndstooth fabric, a tank top and shorts combo as well as a tabard-style top, also accompanied other looks, such as heavy vest and leather jackets. Using the form and structure of the West, Sean Suen contains the movement and rhythm of the East to produce a ground-breaking collection.
