Balenciaga’s reveals its new direction in fashion.
Since Alexander Wang left Balenciaga in July, everyone has been speculating who will take his place and today Balenciaga announces their new creative director, Vetements. 32-year-old Georgian-born designer, Demna Gvasali, who is also the talent behind the label Vetements is now the new creative director for Balenciaga. His first collection for Balenciaga will be autumn/winter 2016 which will be revealed in March 2016.
“I am delighted to welcome Demna Gvasalia, a powerful emerging force in today’s creative world, as artistic director of Balenciaga,” François-Henri Pinault, president and CEO of Kering which owns Balenciaga, shared today. “Demna Gvasalia embodies a unique approach to the profession, marked by a sociological observation of the wardrobe’s essentials and the way he remains humble and rigorous in his creative work. I am convinced that he will lead Balenciaga to a successful future.”
In the past Gvasalia graduated at Antwerp’s legendary Royal Academy of Fine Arts and worked with big fashion houses like Maison Martin Margiela and Louis Vuitton before starting Vetements.
We at PAUSE look forward to seeing what Gvasalia will bring in Spring 2016.
