Another collection from BARBARA I GONGINI in her favourite hue – inky black.
BARBARA I GONGINI’s collection for Spring Summer 2017 opened with a surprising hue – white. Had the veteran designer given up on her usual signature shade of black? No. The looks soon transcended into full on blacker than black outfits via a few graphic prints in black and white, but the sporadic dashings of white certainly helped to lift the mood of the collection. The dark SS17 offering is a clashing of traditionally tailored garments and urban street wear, all with the expected avant garde approach. A key aspect of the garments is their ability for multifunctional purposes, which is explored through unexpected openings and strings. The clothes feature asymmetric cuts, visible stitching and zip details which encourage the wearer to individualise his style. Unconventional fabrics are explored throughout the collection, with a white parachute fabric being introduced along with crinkled, washed viscose, cold died jersey, linen, washed sheep leather and a gazelike cotton.
