One of the most striking presentations from this weekend, for Autumn/Winter 17′ Tourne de Transmission showcased their upcoming collection in a blacked out space with lyrics from the song ‘NOWHERE’ draping from transparent material throughout.
Looking at the clothes themselves, a predominantly monochrome assemblage – with a grungy undertone typical of the 90s. Hoodies, loose fitting trousers, technical rainwear and statement outerwear made up a large part of the collection, with a heavy focus on layering simpler pieces together – creating a unified finish.
Speaking of his inspiration, designer Graeme referenced his youth and the political isolation that’s typical of the majority of teenagers upbringing. The concept of a dissociated youth is one that he struggles to wrap his head around, both then and now, with lyrics from RIDE’s song, NOWHERE, being the closest reflection of his feelings.
While Tourne de Transmission are no strangers to messaging in their collections, this season’s overriding concept seemed to really strike a note with LFWM showgoers. Perhaps the events of 2016 have really left a bitter taste, with Gaughan summing up how we all feel perfectly – “this frustrated inability to change a bigger situation”.
