Fashion evolves by the day, week, and month and it becomes quite difficult to remain on-trend. From following celebrity styles to checking out the latest fashions from the runway, we are spoilt with even the basics, but nothing is ever basic in fashion if you know what to look out for. So if you are yet to get your hands on the latest fashion forecast in 2022, then look no further as we have the lowdown on what’s hot this year. Fashion-forward styles in 2022, here we come!
The pullover
Rewind to the 90s, and pullovers (also known as the sweater vest, we still cringe at this “alternative” name) were all the rage. They could be paired with a sleek work shirt, a cute denim skirt and collar t-shirt, and more. But thankfully, fashion has since improved and brought the pullover right along with it. This time around, the pullover is going preppy. If you are unfamiliar with prep wear, it’s the clothing Ivy League students would wear. Expect to see this 90s classic on the runway, but how do we dress this up today? These knits pair well with dorky prints according to fashion experts.
The pullover
Meow… no? The catsuit has been a popular item of clothing since it was first worn in the 60s. But it truly became popular in the 70s disco era where women were sporting big hair, bold makeup, and fashionable looks dripping in gold! While the catsuit made a slight appearance in 2021 from some celebrities like singer Lizzo and supermodel Hailey Bieber both rocking one. But that’s not all, fashion houses such as Burberry and Yves Saint Laurent could partially be to thank for this trend’s latest appearance, and we couldn’t be happier.
Denim on Denim
There was a time when wearing denim on denim was a faux pas. And we are glad those times are over. A classic look is to rock your best pair of jeans and top it off with a matching denim jacket, white t-shirt, and a crisp white pair of Chuck Taylor All-Stars or old-school Vans. Man, what a look. Now, if our memory serves correct, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake wore matching denim outfits to the American Music Awards in 2021 BUT those are not the looks you want. There is one tip that fashion experts live by: do not wear denim that is identical in shade, you must be intentional. Either match them perfectly or do not.
The chain belt
This one completely slipped our memory but here we are with chain belts. Look, if this 90s trend taught us anything is that bling means to win. Remember IT girls from the 2000s rocking chain belts with sundresses? I know you remember seeing Beyonce in one! But this time around chain belts can be quite chic. Grab a cute knit dress and pair it with your chain belt, AND all your regular jewellery, simply don’t skimp. Wear the belt just above your belly button, and you are set.
The knits
We still have a few months of winter left but textured knits might not have made a comeback, that’s because they never left. There are so many knits to choose from. Chunky, cardigans, off the shoulder, etc. But what you should remember with this trend is to stick to the textures. No matter the knit you buy, make sure it has those gorgeous cable stitches or those cute patterns just flowing over your chest. Toss away your basic sweaters and go for those luxury patterned knits.
The micro blazer
In 2021 we saw the blazer make its comeback from the 80s. Blazers are an amazing accessory that takes your look to the next level. But what is a micro blazer? Jackets are all about size and with fashionistas wanting a more refined look, micro blazers do just that. Brands such as Proenza Schouler, Miu Miu, and Jacquemus all offer the more tailored blazer look as evident on the runway. And they are much easier to pair with anything from those slim-fit trousers and miniskirts to skinny jeans. Your styling options are endless.
