Adidas and Y-3 Take a Stab at a Vertical Sneaker

Stand at Attention.

This season, Y-3 and adidas are continuing their tradition of intersecting sporting code with Japanese minimalism as they launch a backless sneaker.

The Y-3 Kyasu was unveiled during Paris Fashion Week in March 2023 along with Yohji Yamamoto’s collection. Since 2001, the pair have collaborated on unique silhouettes, along with wacky takes on staple shoes like zipper Stan Smith and de-threaded Gazelle. Designed to mimic the classic Superstar silhouette, the original casting of the sneaker was done to appear as if the famed silhouette had been cast in concrete. Kyasu strips itself of all of the basic sneaker elements, donning just a rubber shell-toe, PU midsole, suede upper, and laces. This deliberate non-admission means the sneaker may rest vertically, expressing Yamamoto’s love for brutally expressive, avant-garde wear.

Launching in both a low-top and high-top, the Y-3 Kyasu will arrive globally on Adidas.com, CONFIRMED, in-store, and through select retailers.
