Vans has officially named singer-songwriter SZA as its first-ever Artistic Director in a new multi-year partnership. In this role, the artist will be deeply involved in the brand’s creative direction, working to reimagine upcoming campaigns and co-create exclusive product collections that fuse her unique vision with Vans’ classic “Off the Wall” spirit.

The collaboration’s debut campaign, which SZA described as “a dreamy ode to expressing vulnerability,” spotlights one of her favorite silhouettes: the Knu Skool in Black/White. Originally released in 1997, the shoe features an oversized, puffed-up tongue and 3D Sidestripe. SZA has long been a fan of the brand, stating that her mission as artistic director is to “show that joy, community, creativity, and fashion are all still intersectional.” The partnership aims to showcase how she has been able to defy fashion norms and empower youth through her authentic and expressive style.
