See the Paul Smith Autumn/Winter 2017 Menswear collection as it appeared on the runway at Paris Fashion Week:
For the first season ever, Paul Smith chose to show both his men’s and women’s collections under one roof; but, while this controversial, long overdue take on the fashion week system is rolling out across the board, there are still some things are best left untouched.
This was the case with the AW17 lineup from the iconic British designer – a showreel of the most successful silhouettes, styles, and designs he’s become renowned for, without the need to be updated. Using quintessentially British fabrics like check and tartan, Smith’s typical fusion of traditional design with contemporary styling felt refreshingly unique in a fashion system dominated by streetwear and Supreme-fanatics.
With fashion behemoths like Vuitton now seeming to bend to the allure of hype beast brands, it’s all the more compelling to see a traditional British brand continue to show men how they can look stylish, current and, most importantly, not stuffy in a suit. Needless to say, Smith’s AW17 selection of separates in bold prints, colours and shapes – all fitted to perfection – made a perfect case for this.
