3 Star hotel with 5 star comfort
Where?: ibis London Excel Docklands, 9 Western Gateway Royal Victoria Dock, London.
As everyone knows, ibis is a huge worldwide chain of affordable accommodation, located in great spots, perfect for tourists and business folk alike.
PAUSE checked out the Excel Docklands branch and was more than pleasantly surprised; and that wasn’t just down to the friendly staff welcoming all guests at the front door. With modern decor, and a handy walking distance from Custom House DLR, it is the perfect spot to stay at when this side of town; with an affordable price tag. The Excel is 2 mins away so it is great for those attending conferences and shows, but the Docks also have lovely walkways with restaurants for those that want to see a different side to London. FYI: there are some great photo opportunities for the ‘gram!
The bedrooms are basic, but have everything you need for a short trip. Bathrooms are complete with shower gel and soap so no need to squeeze that into your already full suitcase/bag. I must add, it was one of the best nights sleep I’ve had in a while! The bed was super comfy and a great size with extra cushions if needed. Something else to note is that despite the hotel’s huge size with copious guests, it was very quiet and peaceful.
The hotel offers its own restaurant, named Fogg’s, and it helpfully serves dinner until 10pm, which is great for those checking in late. The bar staff also make delicious (and strong!) cocktails, so worth a try even if it’s just as a night cap. Breakfast sees a buffet spread laid out, from croissants to eggs and beans, so there is something for every taste bud.
