ASICS Unveils The “METASPEED” Trio

SKY TOKYO, EDGE TOKYO, and the Ultra-Light METASPEED RAY.

ASICS unveils the new METASPEED™ SKY TOKYO and METASPEED™ EDGE TOKYO, alongside it’s, super-light METASPEED™ RAY running sneakers. The three new silhouettes are set to highlight the brands focus on the innovation of speed, significant advancements in minimising weight and maximising performance.

The METASPEED RAY, a groundbreaking addition to the ASICS speed-focused lineup, boasts an exceptionally light weight of just 129 grams, ranking it ranks among the lightest carbon-plated distance racing options currently available. This new, ultra-light iteration within the METASPEED series caters to athletes who prioritise a springy, weightless feel and offers peak efficiency for runners who land on their forefoot.

Also joining the updated lineup are the METASPEED SKY TOKYO and METASPEED EDGE TOKYO, the brand’s acclaimed pinnacle racing shoes, now enhanced for even greater performance. The key distinction between these two models lies in the design and placement of their full-length carbon plates. The METASPEED SKY TOKYO caters to stride-style runners, characterised by their long, powerful strides and speed increases achieved through lengthening their gait. The METASPEED EDGE TOKYO is specifically engineered for cadence-style runners, who rely on shorter, quicker steps and accelerate by increasing both their stride length and step frequency.

Both the METASPEED™ SKY TOKYO and METASPEED™ EDGE TOKYO integrate both the new FF LEAP™ and the high-performance FF TURBO™ PLUS foams in their midsoles. This combination delivers the softest, most propulsive ride yet in the METASPEED™ line, while also providing athletes with enhanced stability for confident top-speed performance over extended distances.

To celebrate its latest innovations, ASICS is taking to the streets of Tokyo tomorrow, May 3rd, staging the unique “Tokyo : Speed : Race.” Over 2,750 runners of all levels, including elite athletes, will participate in this flat, fast race held next to the Japan National Stadium. The event aims to empower runners to push their limits and strive for new personal bests.

The METASPEED™ SKY TOKYO and the METASPEED™ EDGE TOKYO will be available to purchase starting from July 25th 2025, both in stores, at asics.com and at select partners, while The METASPEED™ RAY drops on August 12th.
