ASICS are Up.
Kiko Kostadinov saw the potential of an ASICS takeover long before many others did, and this latest release epitomises what makes this joined effort so special.
Doing a lot with a little, the lates dose of Kiko Kostadinov x ASICS stays in touch with what made many a sneaker head gravitate towards the collaborative duo before the industry did, with this capsule championing originality and independent thought. Introducing the GEL-FLAMME silhouette, Kiko Kostadinov x ASICS references archival ASICS models whilst instilling their own sense of design, with the left-of-centre GEL-WAHNE II and GEL-NETBURNER IGS II being distinct points of inspiration.
Shot by British photographer Rosie Marks in Australia, which happens to be the home country to GEL-FLAMME designers Laura and Deanna Fanning, the extensive selection of campaign images highlights the growth of netball in the country, bringing forward a tongue-in-cheek tone that celebrates the unsung hero. The pairs themselves arrive in two “Gunmetal” and “Mako Blue” colourways and paint a starkly contrasting picture, with the silhouette boasting a reimagined pearlescent ASICS’ typical GEL cushioning, a mesh upper material, an AHARPLUS heel plug, Flitefoam Propel cushioning, as well as elongated takes on ASICS’ iconic stripes, a reinforced toe guard adorned with a floral patterning, and multicoloured two-tone laces.
The Kiko Kostadinov x ASICS GEL-FLAMME capsule will release via the ASICS website on July 19th.
