A Visual Love Letter to Afro-Caribbean Sport Heritage.
Maryse Seigu, celebrated for its poetic visual narratives and exploration of diasporic experiences, unveils its third lookbook, “CANGUIO S/S 25.” This collection is a heartfelt tribute to Marlene Canguio, the pioneering Guadeloupean woman who competed in the Olympic Games, honouring the resilience, dynamism, and elegance inherent in Caribbean sporting heritage.
Captured within a wood-paneled living space, the collection draws inspiration from Mark Rothko’s final paintings (1957-1969), focusing on the essence of duality: displacement and belonging, nostalgia, and the contrasting emotions of sea and city. The 13-piece collection reimagines Maryse Seigu’s signature silhouettes with a vibrant new energy, featuring tracksuits, everyday essentials, and graphic prints influenced by Caribbean sports tournaments. The designs reflect a rich, multi-layered heritage, paying homage not only to the Caribbean islands but also to the wider global Afro-descendant experience.
Standout items include the “Perec Windbreaker,” the “Viv Jersey,” and “Ottey cotton sweatpants,” alongside four new hat styles. Completing the range are the “It’s Better in the Caribbean” beach towel and a striking new graphic design titled “CARIBBEAN DREAMS.”
