Margiela Takeover.
Ahead of his upcoming show set to present in China, Maison Margiela is deconstructing the very idea of the fashion exhibition with “Maison Margiela/folders”—a decentralized takeover spanning four major cities this April. Launching alongside the Fall/Winter 2026 show in Shanghai, the project acts as a living map of the house’s most sacred codes, translating the brand’s philosophy into a series of immersive physical chapters.
From the “Creative Laboratory” of the Artisanal line in Shanghai to an exploration of Anonymity and the history of masks in Beijing, the series moves through Chengdu’s global Tabi obsession and concludes with a hands-on Bianchetto atelier experience in Shenzhen. It is a calculated invasion of the senses, inviting the public to step directly into the white-painted machinery of the Maison.
But the real deal lies in the digital “leak” accompanying the tour. In an era of gatekept archives and high-fashion secrecy, Margiela is opting for radical transparency by opening its internal Dropbox folders to the global community. This public digital vault offers a rare, unfiltered look at the house’s inner workings—providing access to working documents, project timelines, and archival imagery that typically never leaves the studio walls. As the China tour evolves, so will the folders, with new files being added in real-time to document the journey from initial concept to final exhibition. It’s an open-source approach to couture, effectively blurring the line between the elite atelier and the digital front row.
