Maison Margiela’s Introduces a Haute Parfumerie Line

Six emotions.

Maison Margiela has now entered the Haute Couture fragrance market with their “Scentsorium” collection. It becomes the latest brand under L’Oreal’s luxury umbrella to do so, following on from the lines of YSL’s Le Vestiaire des Parfums, Armani’s PRIVÉ, and Valentino’s Anatomy of Dreams.

Having been known for their niche Replica Eau de Toilette line, their new fragrances will differ in terms of ingredient compositions and will provide higher concentrations. Maison Margiela narrates its olfactory tale through six chapters, with each perfume governed by distinct emotions.

Ch1: Blaze of Stillness is an ambery floral that starts Maison Margiela’s story with a sense of hope and dreamlike optimism. This ‘awakening of self’ is fulfilled with base notes of Indonesian patchouli heart and Madagascar vanilla absolute. However, as reflected in life, these dreams may become shattered by society. Ch2: Silent Fury marks the secret confrontational desire that builds over time, with a spicy tobacco accord.

Ch3: Anguish & Awe embraces the thrill of the unknown. First experiences are embraced, whether it is the birth of a child or the passing of a loved one. Geranium, leather, and prickly rose symbolise that beauty may arrive with a side of pain. Ch4: Tender Defiance encourages the dreams and hopes from the first two chapters to become a reality. Black liquorice, reminiscent of childhood candy, merges with smoky incense to encourage defiance.

Ch5: Delight in Despair engages feelings of lightness, joy, and melancholy, capturing light’s fleeting moments. The sweet saffron cream accord is eventually deepened by a sensual musk overdose. Ch6: Fit of Folly concludes Margiela’s tale. Life’s grand finale is celebrated with an exquisite, ambery patchouli that has an impressive 30% concentration.

Crafted by renowned glassmaker Pochet du Courval, the intentionally broken bottles pay tribute to antique crystal spirit decanters – echoing this passage of time. Two sizes, 30 ml and 75 ml, are offered.

“Scentsorium” will arrive online and in stores on the 21st of April. A sampler set featuring all six perfumes will also be available.
