John Galliano Cancels His Met Exhibition

By September 1, 2026FASHION NEWS

It's official.

The exhibition will no longer go ahead as planned, as John Galliano has withdrawn from the Met’s planned 2027 retrospective of his work following growing backlash from the press, Jewish and Asian communities, public figures, and museum donors.

Titled John Galliano: Horizons, the exhibition was set to open in May 2027 and would have celebrated the designer’s four-decade career, spanning his work at Givenchy, Dior and Maison Margiela. It would also have served as the central theme of next year’s Met Gala and marked only the third Costume Institute retrospective dedicated to a living designer.

In his statement, Galliano acknowledged the pain caused by his past words and said he remains fully accountable, adding that meaningful atonement cannot come through an exhibition or institutional recognition alone.
