An Innovative Fusion of Design and Culture
Joining forces with emerging designers, Nike and MARRKNULL have come together to create a unique iteration of their latest cushioning innovation, the Air Max Dn8. This highly anticipated collaboration, sees MARRKNULL infuse their signature surreal and vibrant aesthetic into the cutting-edge silhouette, resulting in a sneaker that is as much a piece of wearable art as it is a performance-driven shoe.
This project brings together visionary creatives to reimagine the Air Max Dn8 through 17 unique, culturally diverse interpretations. Photographer Feng Li captures raw, individual expression using stark flash photography. Designers including Christian Stone from Hong Kong, MARRKNULL from Mainland China, David Friend from New York, and Yii Ooi from Malaysia offer their distinct perspectives on the shoe’s modern appeal, seamlessly blending luxury, streetwear, and Eastern design elements to highlight the Air Max Dn8’s limitless adaptability.
MARRKNULL, the only Mainland Chinese designer brand invited to the project, brought its distinctive deconstructivist aesthetic to the Air Max Dn8, creating four distinct looks to go with the sneaker collaboration. The first look is a reimagined Air Max backpack worn as a headpiece and styled with a simple base layer, trousers, a Nike windbreaker, and a fresh pair of Air Max Dn8’s. The second is look is a more playful offering, a fusion of Nike and MARKNULL’s DNA seen in a corset and hanger-clutch crafted from deconstructed Air Max sneakers. A belt embellished with shoe tongues further showcases the designer’s imaginative flair. The third and fourth looks tie the capsule collection together seamlessly, as models in bodysuits stitched from Nike socks and vibrant red hanger-clutches make a bold statement of youthful fearlessness.
This collaboration serves as a homage to the Air Max legacy of experimentation, encouraging a new generation to reimagine how they style their sneakers.
