PAUSE Visits: One Hundred Shoreditch

Somewhere to unwind from the pace of the city!

If you’re not already familiar with Shoreditch, allow us to set the scene. Dubbed one of London’s coolest neighbourhoods, it’s home to an independent coffee shop on every corner, proper British pubs (or “boozers” as the locals like to call them) along every street, vintage treasures tucked behind every other shopfront and striking street art painted on almost every spare wall. Situated in East London, its atmosphere is infectious; rich in creative energy, it’s a place where you instantly feel part of something – a community that is unapologetically expressive, champions culture and allows everyone to simply be themselves.

Formerly the Ace Hotel, One Hundred Shoreditch is an instantly recognisable landmark on Shoreditch High Street. Reopened in 2022 by boutique hospitality chain Lore Group, the hotel was reimagined under the creative direction of Jacu Strauss. Setting out to recapture the spirit of its predecessor, the renovation introduces a more elevated environment that mirrors the neighbourhood’s evolution into one of London’s most desirable areas. The result? A 258-room hotel with a renewed vibrancy – a place as welcoming to fashion editors and young creatives as it is to families and business travellers.

Rooms & suites

Immediately, it is clear this is somewhere to unwind from the pace of the city. Its deliberate calm feels carefully considered, yet it remains deeply connected to Shoreditch’s buzz below. A neutral colour palette, artwork by Jacu Strauss and an understated blend of bespoke and vintage furniture lend a Scandinavian-inspired sensibility, more like a fancy East London apartment than a hotel room.

With its new oriel windows – designed by Henley Halebrown – framing the bustling streets of Shoreditch and equipped with everything one could need (“marshmallow beds”, a full-length mirror, a Juliet balcony, a steamer and D.S. & Durga toiletries), it’s a space that understands its audience, proving as functional as it is fashionable.

Drinking & Dining

With four bars, two restaurants, one coffee shop and five rooftop meeting and event spaces, One Hundred could comfortably stand alone, miles from anywhere and you’d still leave entertained, fed and refreshed. That said, it feels slightly bittersweet to think that, with Brick Lane, Spitalfields Market, Columbia Road and Broadway Market just a stone’s throw away, guests might overlook some of the hotel’s amazing amenities.

Hypotheticals aside, breakfast is served in the hotel’s Japanese-Danish restaurant, Sticks’n’Sushi. A generous

offering, guests can choose both a main breakfast dish and a smaller plate – fruit, pastries or granola – alongside coffee or tea. Our recommendation? The Sunrise Breakfast. As the sun goes down, follow suit and head underground to Seed Library – a cocktail bar concept by renowned bartender Ryan Chetiyawardana, better known as Mr Lyan. Speakeasy in design rather than secrecy, it has built a reputation across the city for its inventive cocktails and next-level craft. Soundtracked by some of funk’s finest (it was apparently the DJ’s first shift, though you wouldn’t have known it), the atmosphere feels relaxed yet full of life, a reflection of the cocktails themselves: “minimal fuss, maximum flavour.” Our nightcap of choice? The Beeswax Old Fashioned.

There’s plenty more to try – from the studio gym and fitness classes to Kaso’s rooftop bar and Origin Coffee, now brewing beside the lobby (and by the look of the pastries, well worth a visit).

Why ONE HUNDRED?

If the above doesn’t answer your question, then let us break it down for you. Location? Tick. Room? Tick. Amenities? Tick. Staff? Tick. Whether it’s a base for a weekend of sightseeing, a work hub or simply a place to recharge, it’s the kind of comfort you’ll always look forward to coming back to after a long day.

A special thank you to Ellie-Anne Walmesley, the Lore Group and the lovely staff at One Hundred Shoreditch for the exceptional hospitality.
