From Lagos to London, a new entertainment chapter begins.
Mo Abudu has officially opened EbonyLife Place London, a new cinema and cultural hub in Nine Elms dedicated to showcasing African and Black stories on the big screen.
Following the success of EbonyLife Place in Lagos, Nigeria, which opened in 2019, Abudu is bringing the concept to London, this time with the 160-seat Amani Auditorium, billed as the UK’s first cinema dedicated exclusively to African and Black film. The space will host a year-round programme featuring Nollywood productions, films from across Africa and stories from the wider Black diaspora, alongside industry talks, masterclasses and live performances.
For Abudu, the project is about creating more space for African filmmakers and their stories to be seen. Beyond the screens, the two-storey venue also features a restaurant, bar, lounge, contemporary African art and a boutique showcasing fashion and design from Africa and its diaspora.
EbonyLife Place London officially opened on 8 October, with its public opening weekend taking place from today until 11 October.
