Would Martine Rose be a good fit for Balenciaga?
Balenciaga could be returning to familiar territory, with Puck reporting that Martine Rose has signed a deal to replace Pierpaolo Piccioli as creative director. The London-based designer could be taking on one of fashion’s biggest roles, bringing her own take on menswear to the French house.
Rose is no stranger to the brand, having spent three years consulting on its menswear under Demna from 2015. During that time, her approach to oversized tailoring, sportswear and subculture helped put Balenciaga on the radar of a new generation of fashion fans, think the Triple S sneaker, as the house began pushing further into streetwear.
Since launching her own label in 2007, Rose has built a loyal following through collections inspired by the Big Smoke’s club scene, football culture and everyday uniforms. Her appointment would mark a return to Balenciaga, this time with the chance to shape its wider direction.
