After a lengthy absence the turtleneck sweater returns for AW12 and it seems the cosy, throat hugging garment has shed former negative connotations to become one of this season’s must have pieces. High Street stores are teeming with fine examples in a variety of seasonal appropriate fabrics and warm hues, allowing us to rest assured that this once relegated style staple is again cool, masculine and sexy.
With the recent launch of our ‘Get Styled Like a Celeb’ competition, we thought it only right to refer to some of the greatest men’s style icons of the past for some inspiration on how to pull off the turtleneck.
After all, who can argue with Steve McQueen – undoubtedly the embodiment of cool masculinity.
Here McQueen effortlessly combines the turtleneck with woollen trousers and a tweed blazer.
The look is finished off with the addition of a classic trench.
