Many would say that Style is a focal point for expressing one’s individualism aswell as a true reflection of their personality. This is true for one iconic individual in particular; Hip Hop Artist known to many as Mos Def, but is now known to even more as Yasiin Bey.
Known for his killer musical output as arguable one of the most talented lyricist and his professional acting career, Yasiin Bey was once recognised to possess a sense of style that resonated with the Hip Hop culture of New York in the 90’s. By this PAUSE means the street/urban style comprised of the basic tees paired with the baggy jeans and finished off with a pair of classic Timberland boots. Needless to say his talents and worldview haven’t been the only things Bey has chosen to blossom and evolve.
He has since embraced an undeniable classic posture of a slightly retro cool gentlemen, referencing to that of European tailoring by his display of fitted sturdy suits, neatly tucked away shirts, embroidered ties, high-waist trousers and classic loafers.
Fashion has always been an integral part of the arts, but it’s also an integral part of everyday life. Besides providing a real function… it’s also expression of personality, and also art, and beauty, and form. So, I think it’s just a natural relationship. – as told to Complex.com
Managing to successfully strike the balance between pulling off overall silhouettes and mixing and matching staple pieces; Yasiin Bey executes looking ‘trendy’ without becoming a slave to the trends, a skill he long-mastered in his music! Favouring tailored pieces, classic cuts and almost always accompanied by a stylish hat, Bey effortlessly emulates the look of gentlemanly sophistication, combining urban attitude with suave and charm in a manner that is far from overdone, but duly noted. All this accompanied by his influential calm and collected sense of New York soulful persona; could it be that New York’s most inspiring lyricist just became that much cooler? We think he just did.
