Perhaps best known for his luxurious sportswear brand Y-3, today see’s innovative Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto uniquely collaborate with athletic German brand Adidas.
Yamamoto links up with the brand to successfully execute his rendition of retro icon, the Adidas Superstar. Originally released in 1969, the ‘shell-toe’ quickly became the brands most reputable sneaker, associated with the NBA’s leading players and pioneering rap duo RUN DMC. Now 44 years later forth, Yamamoto re-works the silhouette canvas, renamed Super Position, contributing only the most premium material for its upper, toe box, lining and lace stay. The most striking modification to the Superstar, see’s the famous shell-toe box corrugated look, smoothed with all-white superior leather lining, making the trainer distinctly more contemporary.
The German’s three stripes are also hand-stitched, in a zigzag fashion along the upper side from red cotton that overhangs the sole, a welcomed and refreshing tweak. The sneaker is finished with the ‘Y’s Super Position’ imprint to the side of the heel, accompanied by the ‘Y’ logo to the tongue.
Available in two predominate colour ways, White/Red and Black/White/Beige, the Super Position is available from midnight at www.oki-ni.com.
