Over the past few seasons, the influx of Asian design into the London menswear market has been unmistakable. While the number has been exponentially growing, their unique approach to design and fresh perspective has given the city a refreshing injection of innovation and remains incredibly diverse regardless.
One of the biggest success stories is that of Ximon Lee, who’s collections have gone from strength to strength each season – with a little help from GQ China. The Berlin-based, Chinese-born designer started showcasing in London only a few seasons back but has quickly risen to the upper echelons of the LFWM schedule with his creative, design-led collections that scream identity and artistic prowess.
For AW17, Ximon showcased an incredibly rich collection featuring pearl embellishments, leather harnesses and sheer materials alongside a host of more wearable trenches, boxy leather jackets and loose cut trousers. Taking his inspiration from the Chinese symbol for shame which features both ‘beauty’ and ‘ugly’, he wanted to challenge the perception of what clothing can hide vs. what it reveals.
Certainly one of the most creative, artistic collections this season; Ximon’s take on conceptual menswear is one that left us longing for more. We can’t wait to see how this one translates to the clothes hanger – watch this space!
