PAUSE Visits: Brocket Hall

Set in the British countryside of Hertfordshire, Brocket Hall is a grade I listed building that’s seen more than it’s fair share of history. With a coloured past, having played host to Queen Victoria, Margeret Thatcher, a slew of film stars and, of course, Lord Brocket himself to name a few – the halls of this elegant stately home could surely tell a story or two.

Now redeveloped for the public to enjoy, the estate offers peace, serenity and a number of facilities set across over 543 acres of land; all within 90 minutes of London. From their two world-class golf courses to their double AA rosette Auberge du Lac restaurant, Melbourne Lodge accommodations and of course, private hire of the stately home itself – the lush green acres of Brocket have offer reasons to visit, no matter your preference.

Trying out the hospitality of their Auberge Experience, we were treated to a night in the Melbourne Lodge alongside a meal at the revered Auberge du Lac restaurant. Set in the old stables, the Melbourne Lodge offers spacious rooms with a unique charm to each one. We experienced their ‘Sun Chariot’ room which afforded us an abundance of space, an ultra comfortable bed alongside a welcome bottle of champers & handmade chocolates – a lovely touch after travelling from London.

Where the experience really picks up, however, is at the Auberge du Lac. Trying their 7-course tasting menu, we genuinely couldn’t fault a thing. While the delicious options from their ever-changing offerings were bordering on works of art and the wines to accompany perfectly matched; the real stars were the staff. From the outset, you could tell they’re passionate about what they do – a particular mention goes to Nelson and Victoria who couldn’t do enough.

Waking to an expansive breakfast selection the following morning in the estate’s main clubhouse, we opted to walk it off by taking a stroll around the property’s grounds and weren’t disappointed. With an Instagramable moment at every turn, it’s a true experience of the beautiful British countryside – which is a statement you could attest to the entire experience.
