Celebrating the 85 year anniversary.
Having been adopted by a host of subcultures since its inception, G.H. Bass & Co is celebrating the 85th anniversary of the original penny loafer.
Marking this occasion, the brand is bringing the story behind the shoe to life through a commemorative coin designed by London-based lettering artist and sign painter Ged Palmer. The gold-coloured coin, which includes “85” embossed on the centre, features a hand-drawn design by the artist. The coins will be gifted to customers throughout the year and are a reference to Ivy League students who tucked a coin for the payphone in the front slot of their Weejuns and have been created to slip into the same place on the shoe.
Check out the G.H. Bass & Co Weejun Penny Loafers through the editorial below and head over to the label’s website on October 21 when the Autumn/Winter 2021 collection drops to purchase a pair with the exclusive coin.
