Arriving this week.
After a considerable period of waiting, Amsterdam-based brand Patta have officially unveiled their next collaboration with Nike, unveiling a new iteration of the Nike Air Max 1 silhouette.
Titled “The Next Wave”, Patta took to Instagram to officially unveil the sneaker as well as accompanying campaign imagery, with this pair picking up where the original “The Wave” collaboration left off in 2021. This iteration of the Nike Air Max 1 boasts the classic Air Max 1 silhouette and the now infamous wave pattern, with Patta’s signature logo on the tongue and sock liner arriving in two new colourways. The upper consist of a mixed faded brown leather and a grey mesh base, with brown laces, a cream midsole, an Air Max air unit, as well as embroidered mini Nike Swooshes completing the pair. Revealing the context behind the collaboration’s title, Patta revealed that “The Next Wave” “[…] is inspired by the African proverb “Each One Teach One” and Patta’s unrelenting vision to create a connected, and prosperous Patta community around the world.” In light of this, the brand is hosting a 2-day mentorship exchange at Nike’s SHAPA Soweto community centre in Johannesburg, with Patta’s co-founder, Gee Schmidt, stating:
“SHAPA serves as a safe space for the next generation of athletes and leaders. By bringing an exchange via the Patta Academy, we are thrilled to collaborate and connect with some of the brightest kids on the African continent through SHAPA.”
The campaign is snapped by US-based photographer Shaniqwa Jarvis, who captures the generational passing down of ideas, stories, skills, and history through today’s creatives, who include New York-based grill maker Eddie Plein, illustrator Aya Brown, South African DJ DBNGogo, and South African entrepreneur Wireless G.
The Patta x Nike Air Max 1 “The Next Wave” sneaker is set to release on August 12th via the Patta and Nike websites, whilst the Patta Academy mentorship program will get underway this August as well.
